• It has been a while since Marcus last traveled the roads leading to the Emerald Tower, yet it felt like not too long ago.

This time he was not on his own. Marcus was accompanied by a grim looking man, driving a small cart loaded with a random assortment of items. To the unknowing passerby he might have looked like a merchant on his way into the next town.

As he approached the gates of the Emrald Tower Marcus felt a strange sensation, almost as if returning home from a long journey.

  • The guards stationed at the gates looked lazily across the roads. Recent times had been dull, and with the former Captain, now Baron, occupied with new duties, a bit of laziness had crept into the ranks.

At the approach of the "merchant" wagon, the older of the two guardsmen straightened up slowly and signalled for his companion to do the same. Though preoccupied elsewhere, it was best if the Baron did not catch wind of any slacking off.

"Halt!" The guard exclaimed, raising his hand. "Who goes there?" He demaned to know with a stern gaze.

  • "And a good day to you, too." Marcus replied while adding a sarcastic undertone.

"Sir Marcus Tullius, first knight of the Realm." He pointed to a small metal crest hanging from a necklace, depicting his coat of arms.

Normally he would not expect any guard to notice the crest, nor recognise it, but Marcus didn't like the tone of the guard so he decided to make a statement.

"I am here to see the Baron and his wife.", he added without waiting for a reply.

  • The two guards said nothing. One seemed to believe him. He suddenly looked both apologetic and nervous. The other guard, on the other hand, looked as if he did not believe Sir Marcus. His gaze swept up and down his clothes, also onto the cart.

"aha .. so .. Sir Marcus eh? i've heard he's a 6 feet tall, handsome guy from the court.. and you?.." His voice was loud and firm, but he didnt get to say the rest, becouse another voice came from the other side of the gate.

"MARCUS !!" Mollys loud squealing voice sounded, with immense excitement.

"Open the gate! Come on man, hurry up !?"

You could hear someone standing and fiddling with something in there.

The guard, still skeptical of Sir Marcus, did not move. But said no more either. The other went and helped get the gate opened.

And as soon as the gate was opened just a bit, Molly came forward.

When she saw him she could feel her heart beating hard, and she could not help but smile.

She raised her arms and ran to meet him.

"Sir Marcus !! You are here! With us!" Her obligations as a lady were long forgotten ... and she embraced him instantly!

The two guards rolled their eyes at the sight before one said

"Tell the baron that guests have arrived"

  • Marcus payed no more attention to the comments of the guard as he went to meet Mollys embrace.
"Molly, it's so good to see you again. But you act like we didn't meet in a lifetime. It has only been two months."

Marcus was obviously excited to to have arrived. He did not like traveling very much as is and the grumpy man driving the cart did not seem like pleasant company to spend the time on the road with.

"How are you? And how is the little lord?", he asked.

  • "two months? yes maybe .. But this is the first time I see you without the smell of death surrounding us!" Molly smiled teasingly "it suits you!"

Molly turned to the guards and waved a hand.

"Would you be so kind as to move that cart within the wall?"

Then she took Marcus` arm and followed him inside.

"Taran is doing so well! He is currently very happy to sing."

When they had come within the wall, Molly turned again to the guards who had taken the cart.

"Be sweet to carry these things into one of the guest chambers" Molly was about to turn around to continue the conversation with Marcus, but then stopped. She looked at the guard, that in the first place did not believe Marcus.

" Next time you hear about the great Sir Marcus, you can tell people that he's a 6 feet tall, handsome giant slayer.. from Zweiwasser!" She smiled and winked at he guard, then turned to dragged Marus in to the keep.
