[campaign step 1] To the Hrowan woods

  • [Getting ready]

At the evening they sit together at the campfire. They had set up their camp closer to the big tree of the sapling and the cradle of transience (the shrine of terra). The great host was nearly gone and it was time to leave this place if they don't want to be alone so close to the sunken undead capital. "Well than, are we ready to head off to the Hrowan woods in the morning?" Deirdre ask them all. "May we go through everybodys checklist, if everything is prepared? What do we take with us?"

"Terras Segen auf all deinen Wegen!"

  • Ulrich looked down at himself, he had on "simple" patrician clothes and a woollen doublet rolled up under his rucksack. There he would also stow his fur blanket and the waxed tarpaulin. He had some provisions with him but it would not be enough for more than 5 days even with heavy rationing. He carried a sword at his side and his xian around his neck. It was only to be used in an emergency. He also had two bottles on his backpack, which would hold two litres of water. His walking stick in his hand, he smiled at the gardener.

  • The Kara'Tai has dug her hands into the ground. The proximity to the shrine gives her some peace so close to the undead city. When Deidre asks, she slowly opens her eyes "As ready as one can be in these lands..." she had already arrived with a light marching pack, her furs would keep her warm, only the provisions worried her. "We are, however, dependent on hunting along the way...if we can find unspoiled game here. So we won't be able to just travel quickly, but will need to secure supplies along the way. If all the able hunters help out, though, it should be okay." At least they didn't have to worry about water for the time being: the last days it had rained again and again and so Sirka had been able to fill several drinking hoses with the help of a greased leather cloth and also the others had surely taken precautions... she didn't trust the ponds and rivers so close to Ankor Mortis.

  • Iri nodded. She had already gone through her stuff several times and had sorted out what she was still able to carry without slowing down her friends. With a brief look to the big wolf coiled up in front of her tent and to Lyran sitting next to her she listed what they had.

"We have our stuff ready. Everything we need to stay warm, a little bit of food - even though it's not much -, my healing devices and all that's left of my herbs and potions, and everything else i need for treating injuries. And a little bit of what's needed for hunting and surviving this winter. And, of course, we're armed."

In her mind she went through their stuff again. Her fur blankets and the leather ropes she needed for building a place to sleep were stowed away in her backpack, along with a bit of fabric she got herself to be prepared for the cubs and some of the food she could prepare and trade in the last few days. She had filled all bottles they had with hopefully uncontamined water, and had boiled it off in the little cauldron she usually used for her potions and salves. Both rations would last for maybe three days, if they wouldn't ration it too much. Some potions were stowed away, too, along with the herbs and her everyday stuff, but her healing devices, her knife and her blades and most salves were stowed in her belt pouches to be ready as soon as she needed them. She herself would only carry her everyday campaign and travel stuff, her backpack and her not quite finished winter coat would be carried by her brother. Internally she thanked all higher powers that she had packed it to finish it on long campfire evenings. Lyran carried his stuff himself - a woolen blanket which contained his patched up winter coat, some water and food and everyday tools. He was armed with his chainmail, a lance and a big knife.

All in all Iri feared they weren't prepared well enough for what laid ahead of them, but she trusted in the abilities of everyone traveling with them.

  • Deirdre nodded to Ulrich and the others. They really seems to be prepared. „Do you think, we need my cart with camp and garden stuff? Otherwise I would send it back to a saver spot and only take the donkey to help us with some loads. And do we need to take something from here? [of game: did we already bury Veet? I forgot about it]. Maybe some blessed soil from the cradle? Who has a copy of Veets dairy besides me? Maybe we need to use all 3 amulets to search the right direction of Hrowan forest. Not sure, if it is possible on this forsaken land.“

  • Most of the stuff Gerion taking with him is carried on his body. Weapons (Sword, Misericorde and countless throwing knives), some potions, first aid material, a rope and last but not least his incredibly silent metal armor. Strong metal plates under Leather not making one bit of noise while he is moving. Over his shoulder he have his large Roundshield and a large Backpack with normal traveling equipment (Bowl, Fork etc.) water and a sleeping bag tied on it. "We have a packing animal or can at least borrow one from the sagarian army. Can't we? Carrying tents and small anvils is kinda exhausting over time. Even for me." He then listens what Deirdre is saying. "Oh yeah, the Donkey at least would be really helpful. Especially for tents, water, food and my small anvil."

  • „Well it’s a good dear donkey, but an anvil on its back… better to take the cart than and also take the tents with us, even everyone of us is able to sleep under clear blue sky. A little piece of comfort. Also, if we have to carry the corpse of Veet with us…the donkey cart it is.“ she smiled. „And you never know when you need gardening stuff to set up a shrine for Terra.“
